EVLA is another of the ‘endothermal ablation’ methods recommended by NICE and is similar to the Closure procedure, but uses laser energy to seal the vein closed. The results of the procedure are the same as those obtained using VNUS closure; Older methods of endovenous laser ablation were associated with a higher incidence of significant discomfort that comes on about five days after the treatment and lasts for a few days.

However, the newest laser treatment methods employed by the Cornwall Vein Clinic use a different laser wavelength that has eliminated this and the results of EVLA are comparable to the VNUS closure procedure. In addition, the use of EVLA offers improved ability to treat the most complex varicose veins.
